Nadra Plans To Make Your CNIC Into Digital Wallets Soon

The National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) plans to make national computer ID cards a digital wallet under the auspices of the Digital Pakistan government and an update to the existing application will likely be available later this year.

In this regard, Nadra CEO Tariq Malik said: “To translate this concept into reality, we have introduced the mobile app‘ Pak Identity ’as a key digital identity building to facilitate national identity applicants through the internet.

The app helps to capture biometric fingerprints, facial expressions and scanning documents needed to process a person's identity card using a cell phone, without having to visit Nadra's office or ambassador ”

Mr Malik said with the launch of the app, Pakistan was the first country to use biometric less contactless detection and verification using smart cameras. "With a successful trial of 75,000 Pakistani overseas nationals, Nadra will be looking for a digital wallet," he said.

What's The Real Story?

Explaining the features of the digital wallet, Nadra chairman said it would be a unique digital ID.

"The digital benefits of that type of technological innovation will produce positive results in offline banking, investment, business convenience and electronic management systems by providing remote detection and e-KYC (electronic know your customer)," he added.

The Best Part?

On the difficult issue of the use of electronic voting machines (EVMs) in the upcoming elections and Nadra's role in data verification, the chair of the officials said: “With or without EVM, voting will have to be held with Nadra data. However, authority does not play a role in the operation of the machine. It is the base of the Electoral Commission, ”he said.

That's Not All?

It is worth noting that Nadra has registered 120 million adults (96 percent of the total population over the age of 18) so far, with Balochistan making 83pc registrations, compared to over 96pc in some provinces.

"Nadra will open facilities for the remaining 2017 total taxis in the country in June," he said, adding that authorities would also launch 96 mobile vans, bringing the total number to 356 nationwide.
